Why AI Voices Miss the Mark so Often
Companies promoting AI voices as a cheap alternative to real human voices do a disservice to those selling their products, offering E-learning, or turning out audiobooks.
Want Proof? Take 30 minutes and listen to random YouTube videos about music, travel, or cars. Here’s what I found in my 30-minute test run:
~~~ The Acura brand of car pronounced “uh-cur-uh”
~~~ Interstates are known to humans as “Interstate 5” or “I-275.” But AI voices say “I-2-7-5.” Huh?
~~~ Money amounts with weird syntax. $8 million dollars became “eight dollars million.” Every dollar amount in this video series followed this strange structure, guaranteed to turn off viewers.
~~~ Two Nashville streets audibly butchered. Granny White Pike was converted into “Granny (long pregnant pause) White-Pike.” Nashville’s most mispronounced street name, Demonbreun, was called “Demon – Brone” instead of the correct “De-MUM-bree-un.” Not a good move for the businesses advertising their address.
~~~ In a song with AI voices, ‘clap your hands” mysteriously became “crap your hands.” They even repeated it through the entire song.
~~~ Singer Billie Eilish became “Billy Oilish” and BTS somehow became the “Bee-Tees.”
~~~ World War Two became “World (long pause) War-too.” We have no idea what a “wartoo” is!
AI voices have a terrible time with dollar amounts, dates, addresses, proper names… and poetry verse sends them into a bizarre syntax that defies description.
BOTTOM LINE: AI voices may be cheaper, but you get what you pay for.” You’re worth more than that.
